Jean McCain was installed October 2, 2011  to the office of Deaconess of Grace Lutheran Church. Having completed the Masters of Arts degree with deaconess certification from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, she received a Divine Call to serve our congregation.
Her prior service to the church was as a Lutheran educator.  With her husband + Rev. Paul McCain + she taught many years in Lutheran schools, most notably Redeemer, Warrington (Pensacola) Florida.

Following the heavenly homecoming of Pastor McCain in July 2007, Jean sought opportunity to deepen her understanding in our Lutheran faith by enrollment in deaconess studies which ultimately led to Grace extending the Lord’s Call
. We pray yet many years of partnership in the Gospel. Deaconess Jean McCain will assist Pastor Reed with calling and mercy ministry endeavors.  We thank God for this office of service in His Holy Church.

Pipe Organ Project Completed

Mr. Brian Fowler, Organ Builder and craftsman, who has serviced the Grace Wicks pipe organ for many years, installs new digital electronics in a project long needed.  As a gift to future generations the pipe organ remains a greatly valued instrument for assisting the worshipping congregation in liturgy and song.
Mr. Flower has brought consistent skill and care to the musical needs of the congregation.

              A Wonderful Visit
Jyoti Chakravartty is a Christian man from West Bengal, India, deeply involved in Christian humanitarian work in the South Asian subcontinent.  His home is Calcutta, a city unlike anything we know in America, where poverty, population, and spiritual need is acute.  Through remarkable coincidences, he has become a distant Christian friend to us at Grace.  Recently, via web cam we could communicate directly from Michigan late in the evening and see the morning sun coming in Jyoti’s Calcutta window.  Jyoti made his first trip to the United States in October and was our guest at a Bible Breakfast, Oct. 15.

Jyoti has a remarkable story of how his family came to the Christian faith. He conducts an orphanage ministry, is involved in literature projects, and is pursuing development of a resource center.  He has taught theology at the Bible Society of India and has his own degree in Biological Science from Calcutta University.  The composition of the church in India is patterned much differently than we know, but we have an opportunity to learn about the church far from us and also be influential from our own Lutheran confessional understandings with a man striving to serve Christ.  In days of decline and departure from the truth of God’s Word, and certainly in an area of the world where the Muslim religion and cultic groups are expanding, it is of utmost importance the Christian faith be delivered.

Note: As of 10/06
Light of the World non-profit (supporting the work of Jyoti Chakravarttyby) has had to change its name.  The new name is:  Christian Worker Resources.  The new e-mail address is:
workerresources@charter.net.  In the near future, a website will be complete.

Lutheran Service Book
The  Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod has devoted eight years of preparation toward the presentation of a wonderful worship hymnal called the Lutheran Service Book (LSB).  The LSB was overwhelmingly approved by the convention of the Synod and is now finally published.  The photo is of the members of the Introductory Committee, including Pastor Reed, at the LCMS International Center to plan the hymnal's introduction to the church.
