The risen
Jesus was taken up to heaven after giving instructions through
the Holy Spirit to the chosen apostles. Jesus had showed
himself to these men with many convincing proofs He was alive.
Over a period of forty days, Jesus spoke about the kingdom of
God and promised the Holy Spirit to be upon them as witnesses
in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the
earth.
After
Christ said this, the Bible tells us Jesus was taken up before
their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
But how,
do you suppose, it must have been to see the Ascension of
Jesus from the top side?
There is
a very interesting passage from Daniel 7:13-14 which reads
this way: "In my vision at night I looked, and there
before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of
heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into
his presence. He was given authority, glory and
sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every
language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting
dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that
will never be destroyed."
Jesus,
having been obedient to His Father and having finished all He
was sent to do in this world for your salvation and mine, is
now seen from the top side as the Son of Man coming home. He
has come home to receive the crown He has earned.
He is coming home as heir to the throne.
As Victor
and Conqueror, the risen Jesus Christ ascends to His rightful
place at the right hand of God. From the top side we see the
Ascension of our Lord and Savior as His Coronation!
We
celebrate Him crowned King of Kings and Lord of Lords! The
God-Man Jesus Christ comes to the Ancient of Days, His Father
in heaven, and is presented before Him to receive the
everlasting kingdom, and everything is placed under His feet.
That
means He rules. He's in charge of this measureless cosmos,
and He is conservator of your life.
But more,
we know that His ascension is the assurance of our own
ascension. All things have been put under His feet.
And belonging to Him, in true faith, we too will reign
with Him forever -- at our own ascension into heaven.
As an old
Ascension hymn says, "Jesus
reigns, adored by angels; Man with God is on the throne.
Mighty Lord, in your ascension We by faith behold our own."
Through
Christ we too will be welcomed home "to the top side" and
receive the crown of life which awaits us.
